## search_defi

Search the Decentralized Finance Publication corpus — DeFi protocol guides, stablecoin and ecosystem research, head-to-head comparisons, the glossary, beginner guides, token entity pages, news, industry-leader profiles, reader help, learning paths and research tools. Returns titles, canonical URLs, IDs and summaries in text and structured JSON. Follow up with get_document.

Fetch one indexed DFR page as Markdown when a mirror exists, or return a labelled summary. Use search_defi first. Prefer the canonical URL; a bare slug must be unique. Do not call this for every search hit — pick the best match.

## list_top_protocols

Ranked DeFi protocols from the most recent build-time DeFiLlama TVL snapshot. Returns the snapshot date — these figures are not live, so always cite the date.

## explain_term

Define a DeFi or crypto term from the DFR glossary, with links to related research.

Search and TVL tools return structured JSON alongside compatible text. TVL includes `asOf` and `live: false`; cite the snapshot date. Document retrieval uses canonical paths before slugs and reports ambiguity. It tries the Markdown twin and an existing text mirror, then explicitly labels any summary fallback.

In browsers that support WebMCP (`document.modelContext`), the site registers these same tools: the page calls `tools/list` and `tools/call` on `/api/mcp`. A2A accepts `read https://decentralized-finance.io/article/aave/` for document retrieval, simple glossary questions or keyword search.
