## Summary

Aave V4 went live on Base on 25 September 2026 with a dedicated Equities Hub. Eligible users can deposit seven Coinbase-issued tokenized stock certificates as collateral and borrow USDC. The equity tokens themselves cannot be borrowed at launch. The market operates around the clock, but its stock price feeds update only during extended U.S. trading hours, creating reopening and liquidation risks.

## What launched on 25 September?

Aave Labs announced that its V4 deployment on Base was activated on 25 September 2026. Its governance update says the Protocol Security Council removed the temporary halt from the Equities Hub and the market became operational. Aave’s product announcement identifies seven Coinbase-issued tokenized U.S. technology stocks—AAPLc, AMZNc, GOOGLc, METAc, MSFTc, NVDAc and TSLAc—as collateral for USDC loans. This is a live launch, not merely the earlier August proposal.

Aave says the certificates are available to eligible people outside the United States. Availability is governed by the issuer’s terms and local restrictions; a token appearing in a wallet or market does not establish that a person is eligible to acquire or redeem it. The [official Equities Hub](https://pro.aave.com/explore/hub/ODQ1Mzo6MHhhNGQ1OTQ3RWI3MjdBMDUyYmFlNjlDNTkzRmZDODQyNDdFQzk4NjRF) is the place to verify current assets and live limits.

## How the market works

The new V4 Equities Hub has a USDC reserve and a Mag-7 lending spoke. A user can post a combination of the seven certificates as collateral and borrow USDC. Each token has its own collateral factor, so the same dollar value of different stocks can support different debt amounts. USDC suppliers to this hub opt into exposure to equity-backed loans; the hub separates that risk from other Aave markets on Base.

The equity tokens are collateral only at launch. Users cannot borrow AAPLc or the other six certificates from Aave, and an equity-against-equity loan is not enabled. Aave also has a supply-only tokenized USDC spoke for vaults and aggregators. Planned support for more stocks or GHO is not part of the initial live configuration.

## What the tokens represent

According to Aave Labs, each token is a certificate issued by Coinbase Onchain SPV Ltd over underlying shares held by Alpaca Securities in segregated custody. Dividends are reinvested, net of fees and withholding tax, rather than paid directly to token holders. The token’s claim on underlying shares can therefore change through an issuer-controlled multiplier for dividends and stock splits.

LlamaRisk’s technical assessment adds an important distinction: a secondary-market buyer initially holds an unvested certificate with economic exposure but no direct redemption right until the issuer’s vesting process is completed. The same constraint can affect a liquidator who receives seized tokens. A tokenized certificate is not interchangeable with a conventional brokerage share or an unrestricted claim to redeem the underlying stock. Readers can compare the structure with our [tokenization guide](/article/rwa-tokenization-2026/).

## Why a 24/7 loan still has market-hour risk

Aave transactions can continue on Base around the clock, but Chainlink’s initial tokenized-equity price feeds publish from Sunday evening through Friday evening U.S. Eastern time and hold their last value over weekends and market holidays. Interest on a USDC loan can still accrue while stock prices are held. News released while the underlying market is closed may appear in the collateral price only when the feed resumes, so a position that looked healthy can reprice sharply at the reopen.

LlamaRisk also highlights that liquidators may need to sell the seized certificates into a thin secondary market, hedge them or qualify for issuer redemption. A pause around a corporate action can further change the exit path. Collateral factors and caps are risk controls, not protection against every stock gap, oracle error, custody problem or loss. Check current position limits and the [DeFi due-diligence checklist](/learn/defi-due-diligence-checklist/) before using any leveraged position.

## What this means for Aave, Base and real-world assets

The launch extends Aave V4’s hub-and-spoke structure to Base and puts regulated-asset certificates into a dedicated credit market. It demonstrates an operating integration between onchain lending and equity-linked collateral. It does not establish meaningful adoption, a durable yield for USDC suppliers or an increase in AAVE token-holder revenue. Deposits, borrowing, liquidity and loss experience must be measured after launch.
