Where Jupiter and 1inch actually differ

How to compare two protocols

Feature lists are the least useful basis for choosing between protocols, because features are copied within weeks. What separates them over time is where revenue comes from, how much of it is durable, and what happens under stress.

• Revenue source. Fees users actually pay, versus token emissions funding activity. The second is a marketing budget and stops.
• Security record. Time in production, exploit history, how incidents were handled, and whether audits cover the code that is deployed now.
• Liquidity depth. Whether the protocol can absorb size without the price moving against you — the difference between a quoted rate and an achievable one.
• Token value accrual. Whether holding the governance token entitles you to anything today, or only to a vote about whether it might.
• Dependency surface. Which oracles, bridges and other protocols it relies on. Each is a way for someone else's failure to become yours.

What goes wrong with either choice

• Smart contract exploits, including in code added after the audited commit.
• Emission programmes ending, taking the yield and often the liquidity with them.
• Governance capture, where concentrated voting power redirects value away from other holders.
• Dependency failure — an oracle, bridge or integrated protocol breaking underneath.
• Liquidity leaving faster than a position can be exited at the price it was marked at.
