How is a protocol page built?
A protocol article starts from the project's own documentation and app URL, then a DeFiLlama snapshot for TVL, category and chains. We add architecture, risk, and a verdict that names who should skip it. Related links must resolve to a live page on this site — ghost IDs are dropped at build.
We do not write "we used this" and we do not invent APY. Live rates belong on the tools page, which reads DeFiLlama at request time and is labelled as a snapshot, not a promise.
How is a comparison built?
Comparisons are decision pages. The first block is a 40–60-word answer plus who should skip each side. Criteria come from design differences (liquidation, oracles, custody), not from a feature checklist that will be copied in a week. TVL in the table is the DeFiLlama extract dated on the page.
We do not emit Review or aggregateRating about a third-party protocol. Scores stay as dated, method-cited text. See all comparisons.
How are TVL rankings produced?
Rankings are a build-time extract of the DeFiLlama protocols API. Centralised-exchange custody balances are excluded so "top DeFi protocols" is not a CEX AUM table. dateModified on the dataset is the extract date, not the deploy clock. The same table ships as CSV and a Frictionless Data Package.
If the API fails, the previous committed snapshot ships — we would rather show a dated old figure than a blank or an invented one. Download: human table, CSV, datapackage.json.
How is a beginner guide built?
Guides use question-shaped headings and a self-contained 40–60-word answer under each. Steps are real HowTo markup only when the section is actually a procedure. Every guide states provenance (desk research, no reader funds) and names who should skip it. Thin how-tos are expanded in place rather than replaced by a second URL for the same query.
